Pyocin sensitivity of Pseudomonas species.

چکیده
Only the fluorescent pseudomonads, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. putida, and P. fluorescens, were sensitive to pyocins produced from P. aeruginosa.

Effect of environment on sensitivity of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriocins.
The effect of environmental variation on the susceptibility of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to pyocin produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa was examined. Susceptibility to at least one pyocin was demonstrated in strains of N. gonorrhoeae (99%), N. meningitidis (35%), and N. lactamica (47%). The degree of sensitivity to pyocin displayed by N. gonorrhoeae was affected by varying the pH of the growth enviro...
متن کاملEpidemiological fingerprinting of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by the production of and sensitivity of pyocin and bacteriophage.
A new method has been devised to trace cross-infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Unknown strains growing logarithmically in liquid media were treated with mitomycin C to induce the liberation of pyocin and phage. The lysates were then tested against 27 selected indicator strains, and the zones of clearing were differentiated as to killing by pyocin or lysis by phage. Twenty-four standard pyoci...

Sensitivity of smooth and mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains from the same patient to their own pyocins was found to be greater at 20 than at 35 C.
متن کاملO serotype-independent susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to lectin-like pyocins
Lectin-like bacteriocins of the LlpA family, originally identified in plant-associated bacteria, are narrow-spectrum antibacterial proteins composed of two tandemly organized monocot mannose-binding lectin (MMBL) domains. The LlpA-like bacteriocin of Pseudomonas aeruginosa C1433, pyocin L1, lacks any similarity to known P. aeruginosa bacteriocins. The initial interaction of pyocin L1 with targe...
متن کاملIdentification and functional analysis of a bacteriocin, pyocin S6, with ribonuclease activity from a Pseudomonas aeruginosa cystic fibrosis clinical isolate
S-type pyocins are bacteriocins produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates to antagonize or kill other strains of the same species. They have a modular organization comprising a receptor-binding domain recognizing a surface constituent of the target bacterium, a domain for translocation through the periplasm, and a killing or toxic domain with DNase, tRNase, or pore-forming activity. Pyocins S...
